Alone; Chapter 1
Chapter 1
Lilac
Lilac Bane was a girl who lived in Hawaii. Her name was Lilac because when Lilac started to grow hair her hair was that color. Her name before she grew hair was going to be Zara. Lilac had four siblings named Chace, Namara, Max and Diamante. Chace was their oldest brother, Namara was second oldest and Max and Diamante were twins. Lilac was the middle child, for her that means less attention and left out, especially because of the new girl. Yep, you heard it, another child! Her name is Cash. Cash cries every day and night. Sometimes Lilac has to dive in the water to escape her cries.
Lilac’s parents are Jane and Oscar Bane. The Bane family lives in Hawaii, even though they were born in California. Lilac’s favorite thing to do is swim, she is very good at it too. Everyday when she comes home from school she’d jump straight in the water. Lilac will swim for hours and she can because they are literally on the beach.
One day she just came out of the water and saw a plane carrying big bricks. The next day she saw it again, and again, and again. Lilac got so annoyed she decided to follow it, she followed it all the way to a big brick house. Lilac peeked through the window and saw a table as big as her house with people on every side. “Hawaii, a beautiful and clear water state,” said a man dressed in a gray uniform. “We can have it if we want it, and I’m assuming everyone here wants it,” he said. “YEAH!” everyone shouted. Lilac thought they were just some men having fun. Anyway she wasn’t afraid of anything, except for being Alone.
Just then she heard her father call her for dinner. “Coming!” she yelled. Then when Lilac was running she swore she heard a camera click. Back at home Diamante was playing with her dolls peacefully, Max and Chace were playing a game on Chace’s cell phone, Namara was still eating her lasagna and checking her phone non-stop and Cash was silently sleeping. Everyone was being quiet for two reasons, one because Cash is sleeping and two they were all worn out. Jane, Lilac’s mother, was sleeping with Cash and Oscar, her dad, was cooking dinner for Lilac.
“FIRE!” Oscar yelled, loud enough to wake everyone up. Jane popped up as soon as she heard this. “Diamante fire extinguisher!” She yelled. Diamante ran downstairs to grab it. “Namara, go with Diamante and Lilac take Cash outside, now.” There was no time to be hesitant, Lilac rushed out of the house with Cash in her arms. “Chace and Max go help your dad put the fire out!” The two boys dashed to help their father. “We found it!” Namara yelled with Diamante next to her holding the fire extinguisher. “Good, now leave it and get outside!” Jane told them. Namara and Diamante joined Lilac and Cash outside. There was a puff of smoke and the fire was out.
“OK it’s safe to go back inside” Oscar called. The four girls walked in slowly, there was ash on the kitchen floor and Namara’s lasagna swiveled away. “This is why you have to eat faster.” Chace joked, though he knew it was not the right time. “Um, Lilac, are you still hungry? Because if you are, you might have to have cereal.” Oscar told his daughter. “I’m fine, I lost my appetite.” Lilac responded. “Well then, kids, everyone go to bed, the adults have to talk about this.” Oscar said, kissing his kids one by one.
Right after he finished, Jane came up to Lilac. “Lilac, thank you so much for being a big sister to Cash right now, I really appreciate it. Even if it was for like 5 minutes. And to show you that I mean it, you and I are going to go on a mother daughter trip.” she said. Lilac smiled, because what she heard from Namara it sounded like paradise.
